a tribute to mentors

i believe in our short journey of life, it is very important to have the right people by our side that encourages, motivates, advises, shares, prays and wishes us the best in whatever we do. i am not talking about family members, siblings, relatives or even friends. i am talking about mentors: someone who we can communicate with, someone we can learn from, someone who wishes to see us succeed, someone who speaks right through our lives (telling us nothing else but the truth, whether it sounds nice or not.) these type of people, believe me, are rare and hard to find. so, if you find one, cling on to him or her for as long as you can (however, the ultimate person to cling to would still be GOD)

well, in my life, there have been a couple of people that has mentored me or given me guidance in one way or another, and these are people that i really respect, and so i decided to blog about them today. here it goes:

Ps. Daud Tham:

he is one that you don't fool around with, very strict and serious especially when it comes to things of God. this is one man that has taught me so much during my younger days that i can say, i wouldn't be who i am today if not because of him (of course also by grace of God lah.) as i don't have a fantastic physical loving father, i have always treated him as my father in some way (at the same time i also treat God as my Father) through all the years with him, i have learned about mentoring, caring, sacrificing, staying close to God, leadership, missions, discipline and many more. he may be strict, especially with boys, but i can say he do it out of love, real genuine love. even though, i had my dark years, but i know he never left me and still prayed and cared for me and waited for me to come back again (just like my heavenly Father also) and now that i am back and strong, many credits go to this man and i wish him all the best in the years to come as he trains more people for the glory of God.

Ps.Kar Meng

this guy really took care of me during my days in australia. he wasn't that strict but his words were sharp and straightforward, he speaks right through you and gives you the plain truth. he was disciplined as well but in a different style, i call it liberal discipline, he lets you come to your sense and gives you a hint or two what to do and leaves the rest to you (and also God to speak to you) he was with me during my ups and downs, made all the efforts to meet up and catch up with me whether i was hot or cold. and even when i backslidded, he was still there for me, never forcing me to come to my senses, he was just simply gentle with me. sometimes he reminds me of JESUS, someone so gentle and loving, seldom gets angry or raises his voice. he just made known to me that his door was always open for me and i am grateful to this man even till now. the sad thing was i never said a proper good bye to him when i left the country, however, i am sure we will be good friends till we meet again either here on earth or in heaven, my best regards goes to him and his family.

Ps.Jeffrey Lam

this is one guy that i am not very sure how to describe. what i can say is that he is a bit of everything (and rest assured, everything is good one). but one thing i admire most about this guy is his humbleness and his fear of God. because of his fear of God, he tries his very best to make sure that things are in order and that his life is a living testimony to it, and i assure you, sometimes i see that he goes to great extent to make this fact known. this is something that i have yet to learn to date (you know lah, sometimes laziness or nevemindness kicks in, and we just let things be) his humbleness i can say is second to none, also something i admire very much. his style is not the hardcore style, in fact i would say sometimes he is a bit on the soft side (be reminded that Christ was also gentle and loving), but he's got a great wife to balance things up a bit (that's why i say God is the best matchmaker man). a man that practices liberalism but yet making sure that it is always about God and that God is always there. a guy that is man enough to say sorry when he is wrong. i believe i still have a long journey to walk with this guy and i pray & hope that God will be with us and guide us through.

Mr.Simon Locke

not exactly someone that i would call mentor (cause we don't get to meet that much also). but everytime after speaking with this man, i always seem to learn something new and get excited about what's he's doing. this is one man whose life i am trying to be like cause i really admire how he lives his life. he is a man that dares to challenge protocol for the good of it, one that knows very well what he is saying and makes sure that he gives you the plain truth. he can simply flip anywhere in the Bible and challenge your belief and make your world go upside down. if you think you know the Bible well, speak with him, and you would know where you are. i am not saying he is a theologian, but what he says is realism and the reality of christianity, this is what i call God-inspired version. on top of that he knows how to manage finance very very well in a Godly way, a truly wise and smart person that everyone can learn from.

i think that's it for now, i shall continue again the next time, have a nice day all of you !!!

p/s- all of you out there, you too should get mentor. but above all, make sure you have God on your side !!
